Specimen fructured into 3 pieces. Only one specimen found, smell? taste extremely acrid, smell when rousted, chest-nut like. Soil by means of minute scattered mycelial radicles, very short and very thick, 1.2 cm. high, broadly elliptical in section, 3x2.5 cm., fleshy, firm, dingy white, turning dirty buff, very minutely and shortly flocculoso-downy densely, surface somewhat rough, tuberculose and with roots below, roots short and minute, white with the interior loosely pulverulent and primorse-yellow. Sporophore reniform when seen from above, 5x3 cm., subpyriform when seen from broader sides, 4 cm. high, above the stem-like base, unequally and irregularly reticulate with single or mostly double diny purple lines (paler dingy purple between the lines) on purplish buff ground, which consists of stallately fascicled (slightly elevated at the broadly flat or obtuse or small papillateor globular centre) silky-pilose peltae, unequal in size and shape and sometimes compound, giving to the naked eye the aspect of being quite smooth or verrucoso-punctate, the margin of which is shaggyish and splitting,when the upper gleba distinct gratus, its juice makes the double lines one line deep purplish black and thicker, fleshy and soft. Inside juicy and very flaccid, white and pulverulent below, ochrey-yellow next to it, above dirty yellowish lurid, and flocculose. The reticulating double lines are formed by the sloping sides of the fasciculato-pilose peltae, and the single lines by where the piles terminate and meet one another’s; so the reticulations are shallow grooves.\n- This is inverted up and down.\n- Stem a side-view. - Stem seen from above.\n- a white downy membrane marked off the inner silky-flocculose stratum.\n- Stem, rectional view.\n- Cell roundish at first repressed by reticulating lines.\n- pale lilac.\n- beautiful rosy-variegated with pale lilac.\n- a thin cuticle flaccid radiato-silky inside.\n- Cells linear and reaching the upper and lower boundaries of the stratum.\n- 2 cells.\n- minutely cellular, Cells fusiform, or long elevated, mostly vertical, some crooked or curved, wrinkled horizontally, not completely, stuffed, minutely silky, surrounded by darker watery flesh, soon becoming both of them of one color.
